Chimney sweep in Liberty

Chimney sweep service in Liberty depends on where you live. Near the historic square and William Jewell College, we sweep large brick chimneys with several flues serving several fireplaces. In the subdivisions built since the 1970s, most fireplaces are single-flue masonry or factory-built units.

More on what a visit includes: chimney sweep and cleaning and fireplace cleaning and service.

Chimney inspection and repair in Liberty

A chimney inspection in an older Liberty home often turns up fireplaces that were closed off decades ago and flues nobody is sure about. We identify what each flue serves and whether it can be used. Chimney repair on historic homes is done to match the existing brick and mortar as closely as we can.

See chimney inspection for the three inspection levels and chimney repair for common problems and fixes.

Air duct cleaning in Liberty

Air duct cleaning in Liberty is commonly requested in older homes after renovation work, and in newer homes by buyers who want a clean start. In historic houses, ductwork was added long after construction and often has awkward runs that collect debris.

Our air duct cleaning page explains when duct cleaning is worth doing and when it is not.

Dryer vent cleaning in Liberty

Dryer vent cleaning in Liberty covers everything from short basement runs in older houses to long attic runs in newer two-story homes. Tell us where the dryer sits and where it vents, and we will know what the job involves before we arrive.

Read the warning signs of a clogged vent on our dryer vent cleaning page.

What we see in Liberty homes

Liberty is the Clay County seat and one of the oldest towns in the region, with a historic square and nineteenth-century homes in the streets around it and near William Jewell College. Surrounding those is a wide ring of subdivisions from the 1970s onward.

The numbers show two Libertys. The median home was built in 1986, but 27% predate 1970 and 25% have been built since 2000. The historic core has some of the oldest chimneys we work on, including multi-flue brick stacks serving several fireplaces. The newer areas have factory-built fireplaces and gas units. The right service depends heavily on which part of town you are in, so tell us the age of the house when you call.

Housing figures are from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, 2020–2024 5-year estimates, via Census Reporter. What they mean for chimneys and vents is our own view, based on Jake’s 32 years of work in the area. Liberty is in Clay County.

Questions from Liberty homeowners

Who provides chimney sweep service in Liberty, MO?

Jake And Son Chimney Sweep serves Liberty and the rest of Clay County from Independence, straight up Route 291. We sweep, inspect and repair chimneys seven days a week. Open 7am to 9pm daily, we cover the historic district near the square as well as the newer subdivisions around it.

Do you work on historic homes around the Liberty square?

Yes. The older homes near downtown Liberty and William Jewell College often have several fireplaces sharing a large brick chimney. Each flue is inspected and swept separately. A flue serving a bedroom fireplace that has not been used in decades often needs relining before it can be used again.

How do I find out how many flues my Liberty chimney has?

Count the clay tiles or metal pipes visible at the top of the chimney from the ground, or count the appliances and fireplaces connected to it. Each fireplace, furnace or stove normally has its own flue. A sweep can also tell you from inside the firebox, or with a camera, which fireplace or appliance each flue serves.

Can a closed-off fireplace in an old Liberty home be reopened?

Often, yes. It needs a Level 2 inspection first to see the condition of the flue, and most reopened fireplaces need a liner or an insert before they are safe to use. Until then, keep it closed off. An old flue can leak smoke into upstairs rooms through gaps you cannot see.

Do you clean air ducts in historic Liberty homes?

Yes. Ductwork in older Liberty homes was added long after they were built and often has long or awkward runs. We inspect it and clean where there is buildup or renovation debris. We show you what is in the ducts first, so the decision to clean is based on what is actually there.
